Last April 2nd1, I ordered and received a fabric recycling box from TerraCycle. It was $103 for an 11"x11"x20" box, but it was slightly smaller than that.

It filled up super quick2. So I p a c k e d it. Tiny scraps leftover from cutting, clothes that I replaced that were stained or not structurally sound anymore. Thread. A lot of things I wouldn't think could be recycled.

It effectively took a year to fill it to where I really couldn't put anymore in. With the current situation, I held on to it a little longer because I wasn't sure about shipping.

Instructions for returning it a year later were hard to find - they weren't in any of the emails I received. It's not obvious on the website, either, it's in their FAQs. You look at the label, figure out the shipper, and drop it off.

I also recycled some items at H&M that were too big to fit in the box. You get a 15% off voucher3. And it's free. But do I really want to buy their clothes? After getting some of their t-shirts with weird fitting, not really.

Either way, I have to go out somewhere and carry a thing.

So, observations, not conclusions.

1 Yes, I know, it feels like approx. 567 days since "last" April 2nd, but I mean 2019.
2 Like, maybe two months?
3 With a very old expiration date!

I cleaned out my closets! And dressers! Unfortunately, some things are moth-eaten and not donate-able. Could I recycle them?

After an arduous websearch, and not finding anything local, I found a couple options:

At a company called TerraCycle, you can order a variety of box sizes for a variety of materials, fill it, then print a shipping label and send it to them.  For me, it would be the Fabrics and Clothing Zero Waste Box.

As much as I shudder at "fast fashion", I do like H&M and they and some of their brands have a clothing recycling program. You get a voucher for 15% for bringing things in, too.

One of the sweaters I revamped.

I've wanted a cowl-neck mohair sweater in this color for a while, and instead of knitting it, it took me an evening to make the pattern, and about an hour to sew it. :P

To make the pattern, I calculated the finished measurements from Turtle-neck Sloppy Joe c.1961 from Knitting in Vogue: Patterns from the '30s to the '80s to knit NOW by Christina Probert and drew it on tracing paper. I then cut it out. I barely had enough because the original sweater was XL and therefore had exceptionally short arms. Why is that? I've noticed that in all larger garments.  Also, the sweater was cut a little off grain originally so the new collar is a little skewed.

It's really comfortable now and a nice lightly warm layer.
