motorharpOk, the special collar looked horrible.
Desperate for inspiration, I searched google for "brocade dresses", and then, aha! "vintage brocade dresses". The one that caught my eye had a too-small picture, then timed out when I tried to go to the page, but it was enough: What about a scoop neck? MUCH BETTER.
The question now is: short sleeves like the rejected neckline dress, or elbow-length kimono sleeves that would probably be pretty easy to move in?
I'm so angry about brocade!
Then I thought, why not a sweetheart neckline, but then remembered I don't want anything cut that low because the sole contact point with the harp is my collarbone, and even though there's not a lot of flesh covering that one tiny point, the sound still reminds me of wearing shorts and standing up from a chair. Ew.
So basically, a 50s brocade cocktail dress with interesting pleats and non-standard waistline. There's a "copy this look" brocade dress over at sewweekly.com1 that has the right bodice.
Also, I could do an interesting back:
If by interesting you mean a "V"
Now I need to play around with the fabric in GIMP and see if I can get any interesting patterns: more gold in the pleats? the gold or the black centered?
And I need to draw a side view and try it with a symmetrical, at-the-waistline, or lower waistline.
Oh, and for things like tuning keys2: pockets!
